Angel
I once knew an angel
Who was sent down from Heaven
To save me
She fell in love with me
But I did not return that love
Until one night
The weight of the world
Was crushing me
And I cried out
She said "It's OK. I love you.
I'll never leave you."
So the angel stayed with me
She took my hand led me
From the fiery pit
She taught me how to smile
Without a mask
She protected me
Underneath her wings
And she indeed never left me
And I loved her
Some time passed
And the angel seemed to
Drift from me
Like a feather in the wind
But she assured me that
She would never leave me
Then one breezy March day
A devil possessed my soul
And my tongue became a razor
That slashed across the angel's body
She said nothing
But simply spread her
Now-bruised wings
And flew away from me
I cried out and begged for forgiveness
The sky opened up and
I saw the angel
I reached out my arms
But she said no
She couldn't be with me anymore
But she would always be watching
And indeed she still watches over me
But my arms still yearn for
