The breeze blew softly across her face The strand of hair dances across her forehead She hesitantly tells me the truth And watches as emotions sweep into my eyes
She knew I would flinch when she spoke She knew I would shake my head and look down She knew I would bite my lip to hold the torrent She knew I would cry my heart out tonight
She turns around and walks away Her clear eyes clouds with pity She turns back and looks at me While I stand there stunned, unseeing
I try to walk away from it But every step is laden with sadness Falling hard onto the concrete ground This time, with no one to pick me up
I look her in the eye, searching for the answer Unflinchingly her clouded eyes say sorry With startlingly clear insight I realize That the question “Why?” can never be answered
I walk alone on the road of life once more I thought she was with me for that stretch back there But little did I know I lost her at a junction a long time ago
I walk away as tears well up As sharp as daggers each pierces my heart Wiping them quickly I turn back once more And wave a final farewell to her
I can no longer feel the spring of first love I can no longer taste the summer of happiness I have cried in the autumn of loneliness And now I shiver in the winter of disillusionment
